Refund & Cancellation Policy

Last Updated: August 19, 2026

This Refund & Cancellation Policy explains the circumstances under which Meridian Skills Academy Ltd (“MerSkills”, “we”, “us” or “our”), may approve, process or decline refunds relating to programme applications, tuition fees and other educational services.

This Policy should be read together with our Terms & Conditions.

By submitting an application, enrolling in a programme or making a payment to MerSkills, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Refund & Cancellation Policy.

1. Our Approach to Refunds

MerSkills aims to provide clear and fair payment and refund arrangements.

Because our programmes may involve administrative processing, admission services, digital learning resources, instructor allocation, learning-platform access, assessment preparation and other services, refund eligibility may depend on the stage at which a cancellation or withdrawal occurs.

A refund is therefore not automatically available for every payment or withdrawal.

The specific refund terms published for a particular programme, cohort or promotional offer may apply where they differ from this general Policy.

2. Application Fees

Where an application or registration fee is expressly identified as non-refundable, that fee will not ordinarily be refunded if an applicant subsequently decides not to proceed.

Where an application is unsuccessful because the applicant does not meet the published admission requirements, MerSkills will apply the refund terms communicated for the relevant programme or application fee.

If a payment was made in error or duplicated, please contact us promptly so that we can investigate the transaction.

3. Tuition Fees

Tuition fees are generally associated with the educational services and resources provided for a particular programme.

Once a learner has been admitted and programme services have commenced, the availability of a refund may depend on:

  • The date of the withdrawal request;
  • Whether learning materials or programme access have been provided;
  • Whether classes or learning activities have commenced;
  • Whether assessments have been undertaken;
  • Whether administrative services have been provided;
  • Whether the programme is delivered digitally;
  • The specific programme’s published refund terms; and
  • Any applicable legal requirements.

4. Cancellation Before Programme Commencement

If you request cancellation before the relevant programme has commenced, MerSkills may consider a refund subject to the applicable programme-specific refund terms.

Where a refund is approved, MerSkills may deduct reasonable non-recoverable costs or charges where permitted by applicable law and disclosed to the learner.

Such costs may include certain payment-processing charges, administrative costs or services already provided.

5. Cancellation After Programme Commencement

Once a programme has commenced, a learner may not automatically be entitled to a refund.

This is particularly relevant where the learner has already received access to:

  • Learning materials;
  • Online classes;
  • Learning platforms;
  • Recorded lessons;
  • Assessments;
  • Instructor support;
  • Digital resources;
  • Programme administration; or
  • Other educational services.

Where a learner withdraws after programme commencement, MerSkills will assess the request according to the applicable programme terms and the circumstances of the withdrawal.

6. Digital Learning Materials

Where a learner has received access to digital educational materials, downloadable resources, recorded lessons, course content or other digital services, the provision of such materials may affect refund eligibility.

Learners should therefore review programme information and refund terms carefully before completing payment.

7. Non-Refundable Payments

Unless otherwise stated in writing or required by applicable law, the following may be non-refundable:

  • Clearly identified non-refundable application fees;
  • Administrative fees expressly identified as non-refundable;
  • Services already fully provided;
  • Assessments already undertaken;
  • Digital resources already supplied or accessed;
  • Payment-processing charges that cannot reasonably be recovered; and
  • Other fees expressly identified as non-refundable before payment.

8. Payment Plans

Where MerSkills permits payment by instalments, the payment schedule communicated to the learner will apply.

A payment plan does not necessarily create a separate right to cancel or obtain a refund.

If a learner withdraws after receiving programme services, outstanding obligations may remain subject to the applicable programme terms.

Where a learner has an unpaid balance, MerSkills may suspend access to relevant programme services until the account is resolved.

9. Nigeria Access Scholarship or Discounted Tuition

Where a learner receives a scholarship, discount, promotional rate or other tuition reduction, the refund amount may be calculated based on the amount actually paid rather than the programme’s standard undiscounted price.

Any special scholarship or promotional terms communicated at the time of enrolment will apply where applicable.

10. Duplicate or Incorrect Payments

If you accidentally make the same payment more than once or pay an incorrect amount, please contact MerSkills as soon as possible.

We will review the transaction and, where appropriate, may:

  • Apply the excess amount to an outstanding balance;
  • Transfer the amount to another approved purpose; or
  • Process a refund.

Any refund will remain subject to verification of the transaction and applicable payment-processing requirements.

11. Failed or Reversed Transactions

If a payment is shown as unsuccessful, reversed or incomplete but funds appear to have been deducted from your account, please contact us with the relevant transaction information.

MerSkills may need to confirm the transaction with the relevant payment provider before determining whether a refund or payment reconciliation is required.

12. Programme Cancellation by MerSkills

In exceptional circumstances, MerSkills may cancel, postpone or substantially change a programme or cohort.

Where MerSkills cancels a programme before it commences and is unable to offer a reasonable alternative, affected learners may be offered an appropriate option, which may include:

  • Transfer to another available cohort;
  • Transfer to another suitable programme; or
  • A refund, subject to the circumstances and applicable law.

Where a programme is postponed rather than cancelled, learners may be offered the opportunity to transfer to the revised start date.

13. Changes to Programme Delivery

MerSkills may make reasonable changes to programme schedules, instructors, learning platforms, course materials, assessment arrangements or other delivery details where necessary.

A reasonable change to programme delivery does not automatically create a right to a refund.

Where a change is material and substantially affects the educational service being provided, MerSkills will consider appropriate options for affected learners.

14. Deferral to a Future Cohort

Where permitted, a learner may request to defer participation to a future cohort instead of requesting a refund.

Approval of a deferral is subject to:

  • Programme availability;
  • The timing of the request;
  • Academic progress;
  • Outstanding fees;
  • Administrative requirements; and
  • Any programme-specific deferral terms.

A deferral may be subject to an administrative fee where this is communicated in advance.

15. Transfer to Another Programme

Where permitted, a learner may request to transfer from one MerSkills programme to another.

Such requests are subject to programme availability and approval.

Where the new programme has a higher tuition fee, the learner may be required to pay the difference.

Where the new programme has a lower tuition fee, the difference will not automatically be refunded unless MerSkills expressly approves the adjustment.

16. Learner Withdrawal

Learners who wish to withdraw should submit their request through an official MerSkills communication channel.

The withdrawal request should include:

  • Full name;
  • Application or learner identification number, where applicable;
  • Programme name;
  • Cohort or intake;
  • Date of payment;
  • Payment reference; and
  • Reason for the request, where relevant.

Submitting a withdrawal request does not by itself guarantee a refund.

17. Refund Request Procedure

To request a refund, contact:

Email: info@merskills.com

Your request should include sufficient information for us to identify the relevant payment and enrolment.

MerSkills may request additional documentation where necessary to verify the request.

We may also need to verify the identity of the person requesting the refund.

18. Refund Processing

Once a refund has been approved, MerSkills will initiate the refund using the original payment method where reasonably practicable.

The time required for funds to appear in your account may depend on the payment provider, bank or other financial institution.

19. Refunds to Third Parties

Where a payment was made by another person or organisation on behalf of a learner, MerSkills may require verification before processing a refund.

Where appropriate, refunds may be returned to the original payer or original payment method rather than directly to the learner.

20. Fraudulent or Unauthorised Transactions

If you believe that a payment was made using your account or payment method without authorisation, notify MerSkills immediately.

We may request relevant evidence and may coordinate with the payment provider or financial institution to investigate the transaction.

MerSkills reserves the right to suspend related services while a suspected fraudulent transaction is being investigated.

21. Scholarships, Promotions and Special Offers

Special promotional offers, scholarships or discounted programmes may have specific payment and refund conditions.

Where special terms are displayed or communicated before payment, those terms will apply to the relevant offer.

Promotional pricing does not automatically create a separate refund entitlement.

22. Non-Attendance

Failure to attend online classes, access learning materials, complete assignments or participate in a programme does not automatically constitute a cancellation or create a right to a refund.

Learners who are unable to continue should contact MerSkills as soon as possible to discuss available options.

23. Failure to Meet Academic Requirements

A learner who does not successfully complete a programme or assessment is not automatically entitled to a tuition refund.

Academic performance, failure to submit required work, failure to attend required activities or failure to meet completion requirements will generally not constitute grounds for a refund.

Where available, learners may be offered reassessment, additional support, deferral or another academic remedy according to the applicable programme rules.

24. Suspension or Termination for Misconduct

Where a learner’s access to a programme is suspended or terminated because of academic misconduct, fraud, harassment, abuse, serious violation of institutional policies or other serious misconduct, the learner may not be entitled to a refund.

Any decision will be made in accordance with the applicable institutional policies and relevant law.

25. Refunds and Taxes

Where applicable, any refund will be processed subject to relevant taxes, statutory charges and payment-processing requirements.

Where a tax or statutory charge has already been remitted and cannot reasonably be recovered, the amount may not be included in the refundable amount where permitted by law.

26. Exceptions and Special Circumstances

MerSkills recognises that exceptional circumstances may arise.

Where a learner experiences circumstances that materially prevent participation, MerSkills may consider an individual request for:

  • Deferral;
  • Transfer;
  • Credit toward another programme; or
  • Refund.

Examples may include serious unforeseen circumstances or other situations supported by appropriate evidence.

Consideration of an exceptional request does not guarantee approval.

27. Legal Rights

Nothing in this Policy is intended to exclude, restrict or remove any rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted under applicable law.

Where applicable law provides a mandatory right to a refund, cancellation or other remedy, that legal right will apply.

28. Changes to This Policy

MerSkills may update this Refund & Cancellation Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our programmes, payment arrangements, operational practices or applicable legal requirements.

The latest version will be published on this page with an updated “Last Updated” date.

Where a specific refund arrangement has already been agreed with a learner, that arrangement will not ordinarily be changed retrospectively unless required by law or agreed by the parties.
